What are the benefits of sending my child to Big Elk Creek Camp?

Don't Worry!
Sleep-away camp is a fantastic opportunity for your child to grow more independent, build lasting friendships, and develop essential social skills. At Big Elk, our traditional, noncompetitive programs encourage campers to explore new activities in a supportive, uplifting environment where safety is always our top priority. Your camper will be well
cared for by our warm, energetic staff—always attentive, yet respectful of each child’s space and individuality.
Big Elk also offers a refreshing break from screens and the hustle of everyday life. In our beautiful, electronics-free setting, campers connect with nature, discover new talents, and create

memories and friendships that last a lifetime.

What Makes Big Elk Creek Unique?
At Big Elk Creek, campers don’t just attend camp—they belong here. We create a welcoming, socially safe space where kids feel comfortable being themselves and stepping outside their comfort zones. Through exciting adventures and engaging activities,
campers gain confidence, discover new passions, and forge bonds that often last well beyond the summer. The result? Pure fun, real friendships, and unforgettable experiences they’ll treasure for a lifetime.

Our Mission Sets Us Apart
At AdventureFit, we’re passionate about promoting active lifestyles and outdoor exploration through unforgettable experiences at Big Elk Creek Resident Camp. Our mission is to provide a safe, supportive environment where campers can connect with nature, build meaningful friendships, and grow through hands-on adventure.
Every program we offer is infused with purpose. While campers are having fun, they’re also learning teamwork, building confidence, and developing life skills that last long after summer ends. Guided by the YMCA core values of caring, honesty, respect, and responsibility, we lead by example and intentionally tie our activities to values that build character. We call it Camp Magic—where every hike, campfire, and challenge has the power to shape who we become.

Big Elk Creek Camp is located amidst the pristine beauty of the Swan Valley District, nestled in the heart of the Targhee National Forest. The majestic backdrop of mountainous canyon slopes and foothills invites
extraordinary wildlife, and the quiet serenity of nature. The Camp runs on hydro-electric power , and “the best water in the world” comes from a freshwater mountain spring above the campground providing running water to the whole camp.

Big Elk Creek flows through our campground into a small, secluded lake, which extends to the Palisades Reservoir at the end of the valley. Millions of stars await your child! Nightly campfires are a great way to end the day at Big Elk. Marshmallows and hot chocolate are an added treat!
